Donating at TIOLI

  • Bring clean, gently used, fully functioning, and seasonally appropriate donations to TIOLI on Saturday or Monday, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

  • You may donate up to two grocery bags of items plus one large item per donation day.

  • All donations must be inspected by staff before they can be left at TIOLI. Staff have the right to refuse any item for any reason, including seasonality, condition, limited inventory or storage space.

  • Disposal fees still apply to large items that may have to be thrown away, including upholstered furniture, mattresses, large appliances, and refrigerated appliances.

  • All items must be clean from debris, fluids, food, and mold; items that aren’t clean will be refused. All powered items must be functional at the time of donation.

  • If an item is refused, it is the donor's responsibility to take it home with you or pay to dispose of the item at the Dump. Please be respectful of all staff decisions.

How Best to “Leave It”

TIOLI is a legacy that Neil Hansen established for Lopez Island and a tradition that LSWDD intends to carry forward. The mission of TIOLI is to provide a community space for the free exchange of reusable items and to divert what cannot be reused into recycle streams and kept out of the landfill.

TIOLI receives a wide range of household donations, including clothing, shoes, and accessories; bedding and blankets; books, DVDs, CDs, and vinyl records; sports and recreation equipment; art and frames; craft and office supplies; toys, games, and puzzles; functioning electronics; hand tools and power tools; household fixtures and lights; small rugs; kitchen appliances and dishware.

Important notes on acceptable items:

  • Only bring clothing, linens/bedding and shoes that is clean, seasonally appropriate, and in especially good condition.

  • Bag up smaller items and collections of items. Labels help!

  • Make sure items have all their pieces and will be enjoyable for others.

  • All electronics, power tools, and small appliances must function.

    • Some electronics are considered eWaste and can be recycled for free — learn more

    • Broken power tools and appliances that are 50% metal or more can often be recycled.

  • Wrap sharp items for the safety of our staff and volunteers.

  • Plastic storage containers (i.e. Tupperwares) need to have matching lids.

TIOLI will accept a limited amount of large items as space permits, including windows, doors, exercise equipment, sinks, bathtubs, and metal furniture. Lopez Rocks and Lopez Island Buy Nothing groups are also great ways to exchange large items for free.

TIOLI does NOT accept:
  • Pillows or foam mattress pads.
  • Out-dated magazines or books, including encyclopedias, dictionaries, and manuals — these can go in mixed paper recycling.
  • Inflatable boats or rafts.
  • Inflatable mattresses.
  • Pet food or pet bedding.
  • Cordless telephones or proprietary electronics from DirectTV, Comcast, etc.
  • Plastic/vinyl window blinds or ceiling fans.
