Noxious Weeds Disposal
Noxious weeds are non-native or introduced plants that are regulated in Washington State due to their negative impacts on communities and native ecosystems. To help control the spread of noxious weeds, San Juan County accepts a certain volume of qualifying noxious weeds every year for free disposal.
Lopez residents may bring up to six (6) 32-gallon bags of qualifying noxious weeds per day to the Lopez Dump for free disposal, while program funds last.
-
All state-designated noxious weeds qualify EXCEPT for: blackberry, ivy, and reed canary grass.
-
Make sure all plant material is firmly secured in plastic bags during transit so seeds don't spread!
-
Focus on collecting flowers, seed heads, and toxic plant material. Non-toxic and non-reproductive plant debris can often be managed on-site — learn more here.

This program is renewed annually; if funding runs out before the end of the year, the SJC Noxious Weeds Department will notify residents.
